The Governor and Deputy Governors of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) participated in the symposium “European Integration – Banking Landmarks” organized by the Moldovan Bankers’ League within the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova on the occasion of bank employee day.
In his welcome speech, the NBM Governor, Octavian Armașu, mentioned that the European integration of the banking system is one of the priorities on which the bank has been focused for a long time: "The real European integration of the banking sector in the Republic of Moldova started with the implementation of the banking reform in 2016. As a result, we have well-capitalized banks with transparent shareholders, sound governance, which have proven their resilience in multiple crises".
Octavian Armașu has also said that the banking reform, which has already largely been achieved, has transposed the provisions of European directives such as the Basel principles (European Banking Regulation and Supervision Package) and AML legislation (legislation on preventing and combating money laundering and terrorist financing).
The NBM Deputy Governor, Tatiana Ivanicichina, has also participated in the symposium in the panel entitled "Developments and insights of the banking sector in the context of European integration".
The meeting brought together bankers and representatives of central authorities as well as economic academics.
The bank employee day is marked annually on 4 June - the day of the founding of the NBM (4 June 1991).
