In 2024 the volume of cumulative cash releases from banks vaults exceeded the volume of cumulative cash receipts in the banking system1 by MDL 5,553.7 million.
In the reference period, the volume of cumulative cash receipts increased by MDL 3,752.4 million (+2.2%) compared to the similar period of the previous year and amounted to MDL 174,117.1 million.
A significant increase was recorded in the cash receipts from the sale of consumer goods (regardless of the sales channel) by MDL 8,509.3 million (+9.1%) up to the total amount of MDL 102,441.2 million, which represents 58.8 percent of the total volume of receipts (Chart 1). Substantial increases were also recorded for other cash receipts2 – by MDL 635.4 million (+2.8%), as well as for receipts from loan payments – by MDL 545.4 million (+10.6%).
At the same time, considerable decreases were recorded in cash receipts from payments for rent and utilities – by MDL 2,092.6 million ( 58.9%), in cash receipts on current accounts and deposit accounts of individuals – by MDL 1,861.2 million (-10.4%), as well as for receipts from the sale of foreign currency to individuals – by MDL 1,293.5 million (-17.9%), amounting to MDL 5,938.1 million, which is the equivalent of USD3 333.8 million.

The volume of cash releases from banks vaults in 2024 increased by MDL 5,156.8 million (+3.0%) compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to MDL 179,670.8 million (Chart 2).

A major impact on the evolution of the total volume of cash releases from banks vaults was determined, on the one hand, by the increase of withdrawals from the ATM by MDL 4,453.7 million (+6.2%), of releases in the form of loans to individuals by MDL 1,499.3 million (+47.1%), of releases for work remuneration and social payments by MDL 1,431.0 million (+10.0%), of releases for other purposes by MDL 713.2 million (+3.1%), and on the other hand, by the decrease in the volume of cash releases for the purchase of foreign currency from individuals, by MDL 2,706.7 million (-6.6%) and of cash releases from the individuals’ accounts, by MDL 233.7 million (-1.1%).
