The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, had a meeting with His Excellency Mr. Paun Rohovei, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova. The meeting provided an opportunity for an exchange of views on the economic and financial priorities of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, set against a backdrop of multiple challenges, but also with the prospect of European integration for both countries.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Anca Dragu emphasized: "We stand by the Ukrainian people in these difficult times, and their courage and determination strengthen our conviction that our European path, based on common values and solidarity, is the right direction towards development and prosperity."
Discussions centred on recent macroeconomic developments and the importance of strengthening financial stability, as well as technical cooperation in areas such as banking supervision, business continuity and alignment of regulations with European standards. Particular emphasis was put on the necessary preparations for EU accession, a process in which the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine can mutually benefit from exchanging best practices and expertise.
"In the current regional context, cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine is strategically important. We value the resilience of the Ukrainian financial system and the openness to share experiences. The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine share common objectives in the European integration process, and technical and professional dialogue is necessary to safely advance on this path", noted Ms. Anca Dragu.
His Excellency Mr. Paun Rohovei was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova on 7 February 2025. Previously, he held the position of Ambassador-at-Large in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, responsible for the Transnistrian settlement file. In December 2022, he was awarded the Order 'of Merit', rank III, by the President of Ukraine."
