Boosting Financial Intermediation – the main topic of discussions between Anca Dragu and Marcelo Castellanos (IFC)

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, met with Marcelo Castellanos, Senior Manager in the Latin America and Europe Department of the International Finance Corporation (IFC, part of the World Bank Group), and Galina Cicanci, IFC Moldova Officer.

Discussions centered on Moldova’s current favorable macroeconomic framework, the importance of expanding financial intermediation, and diversifying financing instruments.

The NBM Governor emphasized that boosting credit in the real economy is crucial for ensuring sustainable economic growth in our country: “We also want greater access to IFC programs dedicated to non-financial institutions and the insurance sector in the Republic of Moldova,” she added.

Anca Dragu highlighted the importance of capital market development and emphasized the role of the IFC in this process: “We want the financing programs offered to be accompanied by an exchange of best practices in this field.”

The IFC representatives expressed their appreciation for the work of the National Bank of Moldova and the financial-banking sector in our country, highlighting the progress made by the NBM in promoting the digitization of financial services.

The parties agreed to maintain an ongoing dialogue to monitor the dynamics of the identified opportunities for cooperation.

The IFC (a member of the World Bank Group) is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets, working with more than 2,000 companies worldwide.
