For the first time, the Republic of Moldova will host a large-scale event dedicated to financial technologies, organized by the National Bank of Moldova in partnership with the National Bank of Romania [4] and the Bank of France [5]. The event, entitled “New Technology for Old Markets”, will gather international in Chisinau experts, policymakers, and researchers to discuss the challenges and opportunities of applying emerging technologies in traditional financial markets.
The conference, which will take place on 19 September 2025, in a hybrid format (with physical and online participation), aims to explore how innovative solutions such as artificial intelligence (AI) and distributed ledger technologies (DLT) can transform the financial infrastructure in emerging economies, contributing to the development of modern markets that are well connected to global trends. The event hosted in Chisinau will be the first in a series initiated by the National Bank of Moldova to promote the exchange of experience among experts in the financial sector, while being a forum for the presentation and discussion of research papers submitted in advance by participants.
"Through this conference, we aim to facilitate the dialog between experts, practitioners and policymakers so that together we can build a financial ecosystem that capitalizes on innovation while maintaining stability. It is a unique opportunity to bring together global expertise and local needs to build a more vigorous, efficient, and inclusive financial sector," emphasizes the Deputy Governor of the NBM, Mihnea Constantinescu.
The event will include keynote sessions, policy-focused panel discussions and research paper presentations, providing a platform for dialog between mature and emerging markets, with a particular focus on the Eastern European context.
In this context, topics such as the use of artificial intelligence for market surveillance and risk management, the implementation of DLT-based market infrastructure, the digital transformation of traditional banking services, cross-border payment systems and regional financial integration, open banking and API-based financial services in emerging economies will be discussed.
Persons interested in contributing to research works are invited to apply and submit proposals to
conferences@bnm.md [2] by 30 June 2025 (p.m.). Acceptance of works will be notified by 30 July 2025.
