Digital Green Card. What does the transition period presume and how long will it last?

„Green Card” insurance certificate is a mandatory insurance that all citizens of the Republic of Moldova must acquire when they go to other countries by car.  To facilitate the process of obtaining this type of insurance and to increase its level of security, the „Green card” will be digitized.

The implementation period of the new digitized process will last two months and will be divided in two stages. The first transition stage: from the 1st of November 2024 to the 31st of December 2024 requires the submission of the insurance on a printed paper. The second stage, starting with the first of January 2025, requires the submission of the Green Card in digitized format.

In this context, the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) notifies all people who want to buy a Green Card in the near future about the transition period - from paper insurance to the digital Green Card. The implementation of the transition process will be managed by insurance companies and intermediaries and the NBM will closely supervise the entire process.

Therefore, the National Bank of Moldova emphasizes that during the transition period (from 1st of November 2024 to 31st of December 2024) the digital Green Card will have to be printed on paper (black and white format) to be presented upon request. After the 31st December 2024, the digital „Green Card” can be submitted in digital format only.

It is important to note that all Green Card insurance polices issued until November 1, 2024, in their current format (on paper), will remain in force for the entire duration of their validity.

For more information you can contact the insurance company, from which you purchased your Green Card.

The "Green Card" insurance certificate is an international motor insurance document that certifies that the vehicle owned by the driver is covered by compulsory civil liability motor insurance (ACL external) when traveling outside the country of origin.
