The Governor of the NBM, Ms. Anca Dragu, met with representatives of the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Ms. Anca Dragu, had a meeting today, 26 September 2025, with the Chargé d'Affaires of the United States Embassy in Chișinău, Mr. Nick Pietrowicz, and Economic Officer Andrew Freeman.

Discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, in a spirit of transparency and institutional responsibility. Topics addressed included international cooperation to strengthen financial institutions and promote best practices in banking governance, which are important prerequisites for stimulating U.S. investment in the economy of the Republic of Moldova.

The dialogue also addressed macroeconomic developments and the need to continue reforms in the banking sector of the Republic of Moldova, which is stable and aligning with the highest European standards. In this context, it was emphasized that, in just a few days, the Republic of Moldova will become an operational member of SEPA – the Single Euro Payments Area, which will strengthen European financial integration and facilitate fast and secure cross-border transactions.

Governor Anca Dragu emphasised that the NBM acts as an accelerator for a modern financial and banking framework designed to support a competitive, stable economy aligned with the European acquis. "Dialogue and the exchange of know-how are important for the NBM to adapt to technological challenges, strengthen public confidence in the banking system, and develop a modern economy that ensures better living conditions for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova," said Ms. Anca Dragu.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United States of America date back to 1991, and economic and technical cooperation has steadily evolved in recent years. This collaboration supports the Republic of Moldova's European path and the shared goal of a stable and secure economic environment, strengthened by energy resilience and oriented towards sustainable development.
