The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) reminds that, starting with 1 January 2025, the "Green Card" insurance certificate [1] can be presented in digital format, without the need for a paper version. Thus, drivers of vehicles registered in the Republic of Moldova will be able to travel abroad, in most member states of the "Green Card" system, using only the digital certificate.
Please note that “Green Card” certificates issued prior to 1 November 2024, in printed format, remain valid for the entire duration specified on the certificate.
At the same time, the National Bureau of Motor Insurers points out that three of the more than 40 member countries of the “Green Card” system - Lithuania, Luxembourg, and Portugal - have not yet updated their regulations for the digital-only certificate. Therefore, drivers planning to travel to or through these three countries will still need to carry the printed version of the document.
The “Green Card” insurance certificate is an international motor insurance document that certifies that the vehicle owned by the driver is covered by compulsory third party liability insurance (external MTPL) when traveling outside the country of origin.
