The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) joins, for the second consecutive year, the international event "European Night of Museums", which encourages public access to cultural heritage, promoting education, collective memory and intercultural dialogue.
The event will take place on Saturday, 17 May 2025, from 4 PMto 11 PM, at the NBM headquarters in Chișinău, under the theme "Museums shape the future".
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the history and symbolism of the national currency, learn what a central bank represents, and discover how financial decisions impacteveryday life. The guided tour offers an incursion into the monetary universe of the Republic of Moldova, in a setting where financial culture harmonizes with the state’s identity values.
"We are once again opening the doors of the National Bank onthe European Night of Museums to offer the public a vividexperience, where currency tells its story and heritage becomes a source of reflection and inspiration. Each exhibit bears the imprint of our evolution and the values that define us: stability, trust, education. In this space, culture and knowledge are naturally intertwined, giving meaning to the symbols of the past and clear direction to the steps towards the future. The true strength of an institution lies in its ability to cultivate thought and strengthen trust," said Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank, on the occasion of the event.
Attendees will be able to admire the collection of commemorative and jubilee coins made of gold and silver, as well as other relevant pieces of monetary art and historical documents. The atmosphere will be friendly and relaxed, dedicated to all those who wish to reconnect with their identity values through financial heritage.
Admission is free and visits will be organized every hour without prior appointment. Access will be granted upon presentation of an ID.
European Night of Museums, now in its 21st edition, is organized under the patronage of UNESCO, the Council of Europe and the International Council of Museums (ICOM), bringing together millions of visitors in dozens of countries each year.
