The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), Ms Anca Dragu, met today with students and master’s students from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences at the Moldova State University (USM), who are taking part in the second edition of this year’s “School of Modern Finance” programme.
The project, carried out with the support of the National Bank of Romania (NBR) and in partnership with the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE), has reached its seventh edition. The discussion with the young people, who were selected by competition, took place before their departure for Romania, where the programme begins on Saturday, 5 September, and will run until 13 September 2026.
The exchange of ideas and perspectives focused on the importance of financial education, the impact of investing in education, and the opportunities provided by the project — all key pillars in supporting a future career in journalism within a transparent, objective and professional media environment.
“Through the School of Modern Finance, we want to offer young people practical experiences that complement the knowledge they acquire at university. We want them to understand how the economy works, what role the central bank plays, and how all of this is reflected in each of our lives. At the National Bank, we believe in the power of financial education and in the potential of young people, which is why we are developing modern mechanisms to support an open, digital and secure economy,” said NBM Governor Anca Dragu during her discussion with the students.
The NBM Governor encouraged the young people to make the most of this learning experience, highlighting that the knowledge they acquire will enable them to contribute directly to informing citizens, thereby helping them make wise and responsible financial decisions.
The programme will include lectures, practical discussions and meetings with experienced professionals and academics, giving participants the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of economic and financial mechanisms and to explore the link between theoretical concepts and everyday reality. The professional component will be complemented by visits to Iași, Sinaia, Brașov and Suceava, allowing the young people to discover Romania’s cultural and historical heritage.
The selected participants expressed their confidence that the programme would provide them with a unique experience, helping them to better understand the mechanisms of the economy and, in turn, to communicate clear and accessible financial information to the wider public.
The “School of Modern Finance” programme aims to support young people in their professional development and promote a strong economic culture both among future economists and representatives of the economic press.
