NBM Governor, Ms Anca Dragu: Strong corporate governance builds trust and stability

Ms Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), participated in the official launch of the Board Leadership Program International, a program introduced for the first time in the Republic of Moldova by Chișinău Business School, in partnership with Bucharest Business School, the Romanian Independent Directors Association, and with the support of ecoDa - The European Voice of Directors.

During the event, the Governor spoke about corporate governance and the importance of education, particularly highlighting the role of professional, independent, and responsible boards in strengthening institutional stability and building trust in the economy.

"For the National Bank of Moldova, strong corporate governance is a condition for stability. We see this very clearly in the banking sector, where the quality of boards, decision-making independence, professionalism of members, and a culture of responsibility directly impact the solidity of financial institutions. A well-governed bank is a more prudent, transparent, and better-prepared institution to face uncertainties. The same principle applies to any company, regardless of the industry it operates in. In a transforming economy, well-built governance creates trust, responsibility, and a long-term vision," stated Ms Anca Dragu.

The Board Leadership Program International is focused on developing leadership, corporate governance, and strategic responsibility skills for board members and individuals involved in high-level decision-making processes. The program has a limited number of 30 places, with the first module scheduled for May 2026, and will be led by Philip Stiles, a professor at the University of Cambridge.

The event brought together representatives from the academic, financial, banking, and business sectors, including Alina Prahoveanu, President of the Romanian Independent Directors Association, Ana Bobircă, representative of Bucharest Business School, as well as representatives from Chișinău Business School and the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova.

The National Bank of Moldova reaffirms the importance of promoting high standards of governance, transparency, and responsibility, to support a strong financial sector and a more resilient economy.
