The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) has launched the “Future in Public Finance and Banking” mentoring programme, a new practical component of the “FinanciarELE – Women’s Leadership Community” financial education project, and the first initiative of its kind organised by the National Bank of Moldova.
The programme is aimed at students over the age of 16 and university students interested in economics, public finance, the banking sector, investment or public administration. It will run for eight weeks and include a series of meetings exploring educational and career pathways with the support of mentors, complemented by individual activities.
“Through direct dialogue and examples from the mentors’ professional experiences, participants will gain a better understanding of what a career in finance entails, which skills are important, and how they can turn their aspirations into concrete goals. The experience of those who have already travelled this path can provide valuable guidance, inspiration and greater confidence in their own choices,” said the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Ms Anca Dragu, at the opening of the “The Meaning of Money” Financial Education Camp, organised by the NBM in partnership with Yep! Moldova.
Around 20 young people will be selected for the mentoring programme, which will begin in the autumn, based on a written application and an interview conducted by the NBM. They will have the opportunity to interact directly with women in leadership positions in the public and private financial sectors and to discover, beyond theoretical information, what a career in public finance, central banking, commercial banking or investment actually involves.
The programme will be tailored to the interests and career goals of each participant. At the first meeting, the mentor and young participant will jointly set objectives for the two-month period. This will be followed by a visit to the institution where the mentor works, giving participants the opportunity to gain an insight into its activities and see what a working day in a leadership role looks like.
Another meeting, held in an informal setting, will focus on career choices, difficult decisions, managing pressure and balancing personal life with a career, as well as skills such as communication and negotiation. The programme will conclude with a review and feedback session, during which progress will be assessed and possible next steps discussed, including study opportunities, courses or internships.
The mentoring programme was launched as part of the seventh edition of the “The Meaning of Money” Financial Education Camp, organised by the NBM in partnership with Yep! Moldova from 12 to 14 August 2026, with the participation of 60 young people.
