The Republic of Moldova has recently made a significant progress on its European path, culminating in the decision taken by the EU leaders on 14 December 2023, regarding the opening of the EU accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova, inviting the European Council to adopt the negotiation framework. On 25 June 2024, the first Republic of Moldova - EU intergovernmental conference was held, marking the official launch of the EU accession negotiations. At the conference, the EU member states have presented the negotiation framework for the up-coming stages of the negotiation process. At the same time, the Republic of Moldova has presented its negotiating position, thereby, confirming the acceptance of the negotiation framework put forward by the EU member states.
The objective of the negotiations is to agree on the terms for adopting the EU acquis fully, with its full application at the time of accession. Moreover, the entire negotiation process is only concluded after the closure of all 35 negotiation chapters grouped into 6 thematic groups, which comprise the entire EU acquis.
