As of 1 August 2024, the National Bank of Moldova initiates publication of indicators of the interbank foreign exchange market. These indicators are calculated by the Bloomberg Information System based on actual transactions in the interbank foreign exchange market of the Republic of Moldova. The indicators will be published on the official website under the section “Exchange Rates. Interbank Market” [1].
The publication of these indicators aims to promote transparency in the foreign exchange market of the Republic of Moldova and to inform individuals and legal entities about the current levels and trends in the dynamics of the interbank foreign exchange market. This initiative will contribute to reducing exchange rate volatility.
The following four indicators will be published:
- Last Transaction Rate (USD/MDL) – the rate of the most recent foreign exchange transaction in US dollars against the Moldovan Leu conducted between licensed banks.
- Last Transaction Volume (million USD) – the volume of the most recent transaction in US dollars conducted between licensed banks.
- Weighted Average Transaction Rate (USD/MDL) – the weighted average rate of foreign exchange transactions in US dollars against the Moldovan Leu conducted between licensed banks during one operating day.
- Total Traded Volume (million USD) – the total amount of US dollars traded on the interbank market during one operating day.
It should be noted that the rate of the last interbank transaction and the traded volume reflect the last transaction conducted on the current day. If no interbank transactions occur on the current day, the indicators from the most recent transaction day will be presented.
