National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Octavian Armașu, met today Her Majesty Margareta, the Custodian of the Romanian Crown, accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Radu.
The NBM Governor emphasized that the visit was an important step in strengthening Moldovan-Romanian dialogue and cooperation, particularly given the firm commitment of the Republic of Moldova to European integration. “We also count on the support of the royal family in Moldova's upcoming steps toward European Union accession”, highlighted the official.
Mr. Octavian Armașu also touched upon the projects of the Royal House in Moldova, aimed at fostering economic, social, and cultural connections across the Prut River. "I am confident in the significant potential of close collaboration between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, based on shared community, history, culture, and language, has a great potential that we are ready to further exploit", said the Governor of the NBM.
Mr. Octavian Armașu briefed Her Majesty on banking sector reforms, which have strengthened the banks in the Republic of Moldova rendering them resilient in times of crises. Additionally, discussions covered projects supported by the National Bank of Romania (NBR), including in the areas of monetary policy, macroeconomic analysis, specialised studies and the use of statistical data series, banking supervision, financial education, and more.
“The NBR has been a reliable partner of the NBM since the establishment of the banking system in the Republic of Moldova. Over the past three decades, cooperation with the NBR has made an important contribution to the development of the financial and banking sector in Moldova. Even as the Republic of Moldova pursues candidacy for accession to the European Union, the NBR remains one of the most important friends and supporters of the NBM,” emphasized the Governor of the National Bank.
In 2022, the National Bank of Moldova issued the commemorative coin “100 Years since the Coronation of King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria as Sovereigns of Greater Romania” as part of the “Historical Events” series.
