The "FinanciarELE" panel at the Romania - Republic of Moldova Economic Forum: Balanced leadership for a strong economy

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, highlighted the role of women in the financial and entrepreneurial ecosystem of the Republic of Moldova and globally. The debate took place at the Romania - Republic of Moldova Economic Forum, held on 17 September 2025, in Chișinău, an event organised by the European Businesswomen's Federation (PEFA), under the auspices of the National Bank of Moldova and in partnership with the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova.

The Governor of the central bank moderated the "FinanciarELE" panel, facilitating the exchange of ideas and visions between leaders from the Republic of Moldova and Romania. The lively dialogue focused on strengthening a common perspective on the impact of female leadership on economic development.

"A balanced economy cannot exist without balanced leadership. When women and men are equally involved in the economy and in finance, we are no longer just talking about equal opportunities, but about better decisions, sustainable growth, and stability. An approach to leadership based on gender diversity criteria, which values the contributions of all perspectives, stimulates development, innovation, and resilience," emphasised Ms. Anca Dragu.

During the panel discussion, the Governor of the National Bank held talks with Andreea Negru, President of the European Businesswomen's Federation, Stela Recean, Vice-Chairwoman of the first bank in Moldova's banking system, and Galina Cicanci, Country Officer at the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

The discussions focused on topics that are important for the development of the business environment: sustainable partnerships between the public sector, private sector, and civil society; supporting women entrepreneurs; eliminating stereotypes; facilitating access to financing; and identifying barriers and opportunities in entrepreneurship.

Finally, Governor Anca Dragu emphasised the central message of the "FinanciarELE– Women’s Leadership Community" project: "By investing in people, regardless of gender, we invest in the future of the economy. Balanced leadership means better decisions, stability, and sustainable development."

"FinanciarELE – Women's Leadership Community" is a project of the National Bank of Moldova dedicated to creating a favourable environment for the development of women's financial and leadership skills. The initiative promotes gender equality in the financial sector and encourages the active participation of women in the economy through education, mentorship, and professional support.
