In January - August 2023, the volume of cumulative cash receipts in licensed banks decreased by MDL 1,640.2 million compared to the volume of cumulative cash releases from the banking system1.
The volume of cumulative cash receipts in licensed banks in January – August 2023, decreased by MDL 234.9 million (-0.2%) compared to the same period of the last year and amounted to MDL 113,056.0 million.
In cumulative receipts, a significant decrease was recorded in the receipts from the sale of foreign currency to individuals by MDL 2,926.4 million (-36.6%), amounting to MDL 5,063.3 million, which is the equivalent of USD2 277.2 million (Chart 1). Also, other receipts decreased by MDL 1,032.7 million (-6.8%), as well as the receipts for the payment of loans by MDL 550.5 million (-14.3%).
At the same time, considerable increase was recorded in the receipts from the sale of consumer goods (regardless of the sales channel) by MDL 1,707.7 million (+2.8%), amounting to MDL 62,068.3 million. The receipts on current and deposit accounts of individuals also had a significant impact, increasing by MDL 1,682.6 million (+15.2%), amounting to MDL 12,716.4 million.

The volume of cash releases from licensed banks vaults in January – August 2023 increased by MDL 2,063.2 million (+1.8%) compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to MDL 114,696.2 million (Chart 2).

This evolution was determined, on the one hand, by the increase in withdrawals from ATMs by MDL 7,048.0 million (+28.9%), and releases from individuals’ accounts by MDL 1,148.3 million (+4.1%), and on the other hand, by the decrease in releases for other purposes by MDL 4,149.2 million (-22.3%), in cash releases for the purchase of currency from individuals by MDL 1,172.2 million (-3.9%) and cash releases in the form of loans to individuals by MDL 873.1 million (-29.2%),
