National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.
National Bank shall have the exclusive right to issue on the territory of the Republic of Moldova banknotes and coins as legal tender, as well as commemorative and jubilee banknotes and coins as legal tender and for numismatic purposes.

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, discussed with the students and professors from the State University of Moldova about inflation and the role of the central bank.
More than a hundred students and teachers attended the lecture. Anca Dragu described the activity and role of central banks in the economy and explained in a professional and explicit manner what inflation is, what determines it and what is the arsenal of instruments to maintain price stability.
“The role and activity of young people are essential for the development of the country and the European future of the Republic of Moldova”, stressed Anca Dragu.
In an interactive atmosphere of open and engaging dialogue, participants had the opportunity to ask the Governor several questions, addressing in particular the topics of inflation, capital market development and investment opportunities.
The public lecture was enthusiastically received and represented a great learning and dialogue experience for the academic community.
During the visit to the State University of Moldova, the Governor Anca Dragu also had a meeting with the rector of the State University of Moldova, Igor Sarov. The discussion focused on the development of joint financial education projects, the training of young financial specialists by providing internships and mentoring placements, and the importance of continuous training of workers in the banking system.
Anca Dragu also visited the exhibition “Unissued Diplomas”, organised at the State University of Moldova in memory of Ukrainian students, who lost their lives in the war in the neighbouring country. The NBM Governor expressed her deep regret and compassion for the sacrifices of the Ukrainian people in the fight for freedom.
At the end of the visit, the Governor Anca Dragu left a message in the Book of Honour of the State University of Moldova.
Today's event was also accompanied by a presentation on internship and career opportunities at the central bank, delivered by the NBM recruitment team.
The public lecture is part of the series of financial education sessions held in the framework of the National Financial Education Campaign “Financial Education for All”, conducted by the National Bank of Moldova in partnership with the Independent Think-Tank Expert-Grup, with the support of the USAID Program Moldova Institutional and Structural Reforms Activity (MISRA).
