National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.

The National Payments Council (NPC) met online in the annual meeting to discuss the balance of activities.
The meeting was attended by representatives of banks and non-bank payment service providers of the Republic of Moldova, of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Finance, the State Tax Service, the Electronic Government Agency, the Single Central Depository and of the Association of Banks of Moldova.
The agenda of the discussions included in particular the indicators of the national payment system for 2020 and the evolutions of a series of projects in the field. Thus, the experts exchanged ideas on projects for the development of cashless payments in the Republic of Moldova - The project for modernization of the automated interbank payment system of the NBM and the Project for the implementation of the instant payment scheme. In addition, the participants in the meeting referred to the preparation of the draft law transposing the Directive (EU) no. 2015/2366 (PSD2) and to ensure the necessary legal premises for the accession of local entities to the payment systems within the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA).
The topics covered also addressed the actions taken by the NPC members to increase financial inclusion in the context of promoting cashless payments and supporting e-commerce.
Thus, the NPC Chairman Vladimir Munteanu, First Deputy Governor of the NBM, stressed the importance of undertaking multidimensional and balanced measures to further promote cashless payments with positive effects for all parties involved, as well as the importance of joint efforts to facilitate providing payment services to entities launching e-commerce.
The National Payments Council is a professional high-level consultation forum between public and private institutions with the ultimate objective of facilitating the efficient and stable functioning of the payment system in the Republic of Moldova.
