The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, was today the special guest of the “Empower Women” event, organised in an online format, with the participation of several successful women from Romania.
The debates focused on new perspectives on women's power in economics, politics, art or personal life - a new path to leadership.
Anca Dragu addressed the challenges in women's careers, stressing that it is essential to overcome the gender gap, but also the measures needed to raise awareness of women's role in a modern society.
The NBM Governor believes that a change in social prejudices that prevent women from reaching their development potential is needed, adding that a successful woman is not necessarily the one who becomes the head of a multinational.
“A successful woman is one who manages to do what she wants to do. A woman who dedicates her life exclusively to her family is strong. You don't necessarily need to have a professional career or be the head of an institution to be a successful woman. A woman who dedicates her life to her family, raises children, takes care of her parents is just as strong as a woman who runs a multinational. When you have the courage to say: 'This is what I want to do”, ”that's where the strength really lies”, said Anca Dragu.
The head of the central bank noted that the secret of a successful career is education, perseverance, passion, integrity and hard work. The Governor also highlighted the efficiency of teams with a high level of diversity, noting that they deliver higher quality results than teams with low diversity.
Anca Dragu is the first woman Governor of the National Bank of Moldova. According to the OMFIF's annual Gender Balance Index report, 2024 edition, Anca Dragu's promotion to this position has moved the Republic of Moldova from 139th to 27th place in women's leadership. The report examines policies, standards and new strategies implemented to promote inclusion and equal opportunities and encourage women in leadership positions.
