The National Bank celebrated Moldovan Leu Day with interactive sessions as part of the financial education project “The Road of Money”

The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) organised today the seventh edition of the financial education event "The Road of Money", on the occasion of Moldovan Leu Day, celebrated on 29 November. The program attracted over 200 participants—pupils and students from major cities, as well as from remote villages, giving them the opportunity to explore, in an interactive and accessible way, the process of money circulation in the economy.

The “Road of Money” is a project through which we help children and young people develop by learning about economic realities. We explain not only how money circulates, but also its role in terms of opportunities to improve quality of life and achieve personal aspirations,” said Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova.

The “Road of Money" journey began at the National Bank with a guided tour of the Exhibition Hall, a true insight into the history of the national currency. Visitors learned how the Moldovan leu has evolved and how it has supported economic development over the 32 years since its introduction. Participants in the event also had the opportunity to admire the collection of commemorative and jubilee coins in gold and silver issued by the central bank, discovering pieces of monetary art of historical importance.

During the practical sessions, children and young people identified the security features of Moldovan lei banknotes, learning interesting information about the stages of their modernisation.

The journey continued at licensed banks, where visitors learned how a bank works and what its role is in the economy.

The “Road of Money” project aims to provide children and young people with the necessary support in developing financial literacy, enabling them to successfully navigate the complex world of modern economics.
