National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.

National Bank of Moldova is issuing 6 new commemorative coins on 21 June 2012 as legal tender and for numismatic purpose. Two of them are dedicated to 555 years of the enthronement of Ştefan cel Mare şi Sfânt and will complete the series of coins „Personalities”. One of the coins, with the face value of 100 lei, is minted in gold with the title 999.9/1000, weights 15.5 grams and with a circulation of 1000 copies. The other one, with the face value of 50 lei, is minted in silver, weighs 13 grams, and has a circulation of 2000 copies.
The series of coins “Alley of classics from the „ Ştefan cel Mare şi Sfânt” public garden in Chisinau” will be completed with 2 coins, one minted in gold and one in silver. These coins represent a remembrance of Ion Creangă, one of the classics of Romanian literature, and have the following characteristics: face value of 100 lei, title of 999.9/1000, weight of 7.8 grams, and with a circulation of 1000 copies and respectively with the face value of 50 lei, title of 999/1000, weigh of 13 grams and with a circulation of 2000 copies.
The fest of Sânzienele is the theme of another coin and will be included in the series of coins „Holidays, culture, traditions of Moldova”, promoting folk traditions related to the growth of crops and vegetation. This coin has a face value of 50 lei, minted in silver, weighs 16.5 grams and with a circulation of 2000 copies.
The sixth commemorative coin is dedicated to the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, held this year in London, will be included in the series of coins “Sports”. The coin has a face value of 50 lei, minted in silver, weights 16.5 grams and with a circulation of 1000 copies.
The commemorative coins are made in the technique of “proof” and are packed in transparent methacrylate capsules and presentation boxes, accompanied by certificates of
authenticity, written in Romanian and English and signed by the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova. The commemorative coins are available for sale through licensed banks at a price of up to 3 percent above that set by the National Bank of Moldova.
