National Bank and the members of its decision-making bodies shall be independent in exercising the tasks conferred upon them by law, and shall neither seek nor take instructions from public authorities or from any other authority.
In order to ensure and maintain price stability over the medium term, the National Bank’s aim will be to keep inflation (measured by Consumer Price Index) at the level of 5.0 percent annually with a possible deviation of ± 1.5 percentage points, considered to be optimal for growth and development of Moldova's economy over the medium-term.

National Bank of Moldova acts as banker and fiscal agent of the State and shall receive from state bodies economic and financial information and documents, which are necessary for carrying out its tasks.
National Bank of Moldova is an autonomous public legal entity and is responsible to the Parliament.
National Bank shall inform the public on the monetary policy strategy on the results of the macroeconomic analysis, the evolution of the financial market and on statistics, including with regard to monetary supply, crediting, balance of payments and the state of the foreign exchange market.
National Bank of Moldova is responsable for the compilation of the balance of payments, international investment position and the statistics of the external debt of the Republic of Moldova.

Guvernatoarea Băncii Naționale a Moldovei, Anca Dragu, a avut o întrevedere cu omologul său belgian, Pierre Wunsch. Oficilaii au discutat aspecte de colaborare în cadrul Constituenței Fondului Monetar Internațional și a Băncii Mondiale, condusă de Belgia și Regatul Țărilor de Jos, care s-a reunit pe 11 iulie 2024 la Chișinău.
De asemenea, a fost subliniat sprijinul acordat în cadrul constituenței, precum și perspectivele de cooperare dintre cele două bănci centrale. Anca Dragu a menționat că BNM este gata să semneze un acord bilateral de colaborare, care să faciliteze schimbul de informații în domeniul supravegherii bancare și atragerea investitorilor belgieni, inclusiv a celor din sectorul bancar, pe piața din Republica Moldova.
Anca Dragu a declarat că BNM își dorește dezvoltarea colaborării cu Banca Națională a Belgiei, în special în contextul noului reprezentant al Belgiei numit în funcția de director executiv al FMI care va reprezenta circumscripția, din care face parte și Republica Moldova.
„În parcursul nostru european, ne asumăm angajamentul ferm să asigurăm sustenabilitatea rezultatelor obținute până acum. De asemenea, apreciem sprijinul inițiativei Grupului de Lucru pentru Cooperare cu băncile centrale pe platforma Sistemului European al Băncilor Centrale Europene (SEBC) de a lansa un proiect regional de asistență tehnică externă pentru țările candidate: Ucraina, Moldova și Georgia”, a declarat guvernatoarea BNM.
Conform acordurilor stabilite anterior în Constituența din care face parte și Republica Moldova, directorul executiv care reprezintă Constituența în cadrul Consiliului Executiv al FMI este ales pentru un mandat de 4 ani. Astfel, la fiecare 4 ani, Regatul Țărilor de Jos și Belgia asigură, prin rotație, această funcție. În prezent, funcția de director executiv care ne reprezintă în Consiliul Executiv al FMI este deținută de domnul Paul Hilbers, directorul executiv al FMI pentru Moldova. Totodată, funcția de director executiv supleant al FMI este deținută de Luc Dresse de la Banca Belgiei.
