Anca Dragu: Digitisation in the financial sector is about responsible innovation to support a greener and more inclusive economy

The statement was made by NBM Governor, Anca Dragu, at the Banking 2.0 conference, dedicated to exploring synergies between technology, innovation and sustainability within the governance of the financial sector.

In her opening speech, Anca Dragu stressed the need for digitisation to modernise the financial sector and, in this regard, presented the major initiatives of the National Bank of Moldova. These include the launch of instant payments and accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), which confirms the National Bank's commitment to creating an open, transparent and competitive banking system.

Focusing on information security and systems resilience, the head of the central bank highlighted the NBM's efforts to experiment with advanced technologies in order to enhance supervisory processes, through a proactive and dynamic approach to risk management.

Accountable governance, transparency and integrity are key principles in the new digital age, mentioned Anca Dragu, urging all financial sector participants to adopt high standards of corporate governance.

"As we look to the future, we see tremendous opportunities. In all its actions, the National Bank ensures that technological progress goes hand in hand with responsibility towards the environment and society," stated Anca Dragu.

In this context, the Governor pointed out that the NBM is part of the international network for sustainable finance - Sustainable Banking and Finance Network (SBFN) and is actively involved in the development of a roadmap for sustainable finance of the Republic of Moldova, with the support of the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

The NBM Governor added that the Republic of Moldova has attractive areas for investment that deserve more attention. "Whoever does not invest in Moldova now, will regret it in 5-10 years", said Anca Dragu.

The conference brings together today, in Chisinau, Romanian companies and investors, bankers, opinion leaders and authorities to discuss current topics for the future of digitalisation and sustainability in financial governance.
