The coin with face value of 5 lei

The main features of the coin

The coin has a round form with a circular rim that stands out across the edge of both the obverse and reverse sides.

The obverse and reverse sides of the coin are of silver-golden color: the interior - silver, the exterior - golden.

The coin is milled with five groups of reeding.

The image of the obverse and reverse of the coin is determined by rotating the coin on its vertical axis at 180 degrees.

  • composition: bimetallic
     - interior - nickel plated steel
     - exterior - brass plated steel;
  • diameter: 24.4 mm;
  • weight: 7.1 gr (± 3,5 %);
  • thickness: 2.25 mm;
  • edge: milled with five groups of reeding.
 

Description:

Obverse:

  • in the foreground - part of the aurochs' head with horns embed an eight-rays star in the form of Morning Star and garnished with a princely crown;
  • to the right of the crown there is a heraldic rose;
  • to the left of the crown there is the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Moldova;
  • in the exergue, at the top: the inscription "REPUBLICA MOLDOVA" in circle arc. 

Reverse:

  • on the foreground - the face value "LEI 5";
  • at the bottom - the year of issue;
  • on the background of the coin - elements of the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Moldova;
  • at the top, in the exergue - the monogram of capital letters "R" and "M" (the acronym of the country’s name “Republica Moldova”) in latent image (hidden images, which are alternately visible by tilting the reverse side left and right);
  • on the surface of the digit "5" a security feature is applied: micro-lettering with the inscription “BNM”.
