NBM puts into circulation a new commemorative coin

The National Bank of Moldova will put into circulation a commemorative coin “European Moldova” as a means of payment and for numismatic purposes from 2 January 2024, which will complete the series “Historical events”.

The “European Moldova” commemorative coin is dedicated to the historic event for the Republic of Moldova marked on 14 December 2023, when the European Council approved the opening of negotiations for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union (EU).

The Association Agreement between the EU and the Republic of Moldova, signed on 27 June 2014, laid the foundations for political association and deeper economic integration, promoting shared values and enhanced economic cooperation. In 2022, the European Council recognised the European perspective of the Republic of Moldova and granted it the status of candidate country for EU membership. The common aspiration for the Republic of Moldova to join the EU was confirmed by the citizens who participated in the National Assembly “European Moldova” held on 21 May 2023 in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau. By hosting the meeting of the European Political Community on 1 June 2023, the Republic of Moldova has become the “political heart of Europe”.

The commemorative coin has a colour design, is minted in silver, has a face value of MDL 100 and a mintage of 2000 units.

The commemorative coin is packed in transparent methacrylate capsule and care package, accompanied by certificate of authenticity with a QR code, which upon scanning redirects to the website of the National Bank of Moldova with information about the coin's characteristics.

The commemorative coin is sold to the general public through licensed banks in the Republic of Moldova.
