NBM NextGen internship programme: 21 students from the academic diaspora recently completed internships at the National Bank of Moldova

The National Bank of Moldova (NBM) continues its internship programme for young people from the academic diaspora who are eager to gain first-hand insight into the workings of the central bank and further strengthen the skills and knowledge they have acquired during their studies abroad.

Recently, 21 students from the Republic of Moldova and Romania, currently studying at leading universities across the world – including in France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada and other countries – chose to undertake an internship at the NBM.

During their placements, the students worked across several subdivisions of the central bank, gaining practical experience in areas such as monetary policy, financial stability, banking supervision, financial markets, international relations and European integration, FinTech, and other key fields.

"An internship is an opportunity to understand the mechanisms behind economic decision-making and to discover how you could contribute to shaping them in the future," said NBM Governor Ms Anca Dragu during an open discussion with the interns. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for an exchange of ideas and impressions.

The Governor of the National Bank encouraged the students to remain connected to the country's economic realities and to use the knowledge they have gained abroad to contribute to the development of the national financial system.

"We need competent, upright and curious people. Whatever career path you choose, maintain your commitment to lifelong learning, your sense of responsibility towards your work, and the courage to bring forward new ideas. Strong institutions are built by people who are capable, upright and committed," the Governor emphasised during the discussion with the students.

The interns, in turn, shared their experiences at the NBM, highlighting the professionalism of the teams, the welcoming working environment, and the opportunity to discover an institution connected to innovation and modernisation.

"We had the opportunity to see from the inside how a modern central bank operates. It was an invaluable experience for our professional development and will help us contribute to the country's future development," the interns said.

The National Bank of Moldova actively encourages young people to become involved in the country's economic life and reaffirms its commitment to supporting the next generation of professionals. Since the beginning of the year, more than 50 students from the academic diaspora have completed internships at the NBM as part of the NBM NextGen project.

Detailed information on the eligibility criteria and application process is available on the official website of the National Bank of Moldova.
