The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) will organise, on 28 November, a new edition of the financial education event "The Road of Money," dedicated to Moldovan Leu Day. Now in its seventh edition, the program has become a unique tradition, offering children and young people the opportunity to understand, in an accessible and interactive way, how the national currency is issued and how money enters the economic circuit.
The journey will begin at the National Bank, where visitors will be guided through the Exhibition Hall—a space dedicated to the monetary history of the Republic of Moldova. Participants will learn how the Moldovan leu has evolved in these 32 years since it was put into circulation, admire the collection of commemorative and jubilee coins made of gold and silver issued by the central bank, and discover exhibits illustrating the transformations of the country's monetary system.
During a practical session, children and young people will learn to identify the security features of Moldovan banknotes and will discover how banknotes are protected and security features are modernised.
The growing public interest in visiting the National Bank shows that people want to better understand how the financial system works. On Moldovan Leu Day, we have the opportunity to explain to children and young people how currency is issued, how money enters the economy, and what the role of the central bank is. Through financial education events such as "The Road of Money," we are helping to shape a generation capable of making responsible decisions. Each coin and banknote reflects the history of the Republic of Moldova and builds a relationship of trust between the National Bank and citizens," emphasises NBM Governor Anca Dragu.
The journey on the "Road of Money" will continue at one of the licensed banks, where visitors will see how banking activities are carried out.
Those interested in participating in the event must register in advance. Groups of up to 30–40 people (including accompanying persons) will be formed, with a minimum age of ten. Visits will be organised at fixed hours from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During the tour, students will be accompanied by an adult responsible for the safety of minors. Requests can be sent until 19 November 2025, to the email address edufin@bnm.md
