Governor of the NBM at a high-level ceremony at UTM: Education, research, and innovation - pillars of sustainable development

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, attended today the solemn ceremony of conferring the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa organised by the Technical University of Moldova (UTM), an event dedicated to promoting academic cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

The honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa was awarded to Mr. Mihnea Cosmin Costoiu, Rector of the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest, in recognition of his contribution to the development of higher education, research, and international academic cooperation.

In her speech, the Governor of the NBM highlighted the role of the academic environment in shaping human capital and supporting the economic transformations needed to bring the Republic of Moldova closer to the European Union. According to Ms. Anca Dragu, European integration requires not only institutional reforms but also a sustained effort in education, research, and knowledge transfer.

Furthermore, the Governor of the NBM emphasised that Moldova’s progress in recent years, including the consolidation of macroeconomic stability and the improvement of international perceptions of the economy, is closely linked to the quality of institutions, the competencies of professionals, and continuous investment in education and innovation.

The event brought together representatives from the academic community of both the Republic of Moldova and Romania, officials, academic staff, researchers, and students, reaffirming the role of education and university cooperation in supporting the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
