NBM Governor in discussions with the Ambassador of Japan: we contribute to building a resilient and transparent financial sector, fundamental for attracting investment

 

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, held a meeting with His Excellency Yamada Yoichiro, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova. The discussions focused on the evolution of macroeconomic indicators and the role of the NBM in ensuring a favourable development framework in view of the Republic of Moldova's accession to the European Union.

Anca Dragu mentioned the NBM's firm commitment to contribute decisively to the fulfilment of the economic criteria in the European integration process, underlining the importance of a sound financial sector in stimulating economic progress.

The Governor noted that now is the right time for investments in the Republic of Moldova. In this regard, the NBM is looking for the best solutions to boost the financial intermediation and the development of a sustainable capital market.

Anca Dragu highlighted recent successful projects, such as the application to join SEPA and the launch of MIA Instant Payments System, which were supported by local banking entities, proving the premises of a mature banking system.

In turn, the Ambassador of Japan expressed his appreciation for the progress of the National Bank in carrying out reforms and, at the same time, openness of the Republic of Moldova to join the European Union.

Another aspect of the discussion was the preparation of the upcoming meeting of the NBM Governor with the Japanese Vice Minister for International Affairs in the Ministry of Finance, Masato Kanda, who will visit the Republic of Moldova in June 2024.
