NBM launches the commemorative coin "Ion Pelivan – 150 years since birth"

Starting from 1 April 2026, the National Bank of Moldova will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, the commemorative coin "Ion Pelivan – 150 years since birth" which completes the "Personalities" series.

On 1 April 2026, it will be 150 years since the birth of Ion Pelivan (1876-1954), a prominent figure in the national liberation movement of Bessarabia and one of the promoters of the unionist movement within Sfatul Țării (the National Council). He played a decisive role in the historical process that led to the Union of 1918. Ion Pelivan is part of Bessarabia’s “golden generation,” contributing, through his political, educational, and cultural activity, to the affirmation of national identity and to the strengthening of the ideal of reunification.

Each coin is packaged in a transparent acrylic capsule and a presentation box, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Ms Anca Dragu.

"Through this numismatic issue, we bring back into the present a symbol of courage and determination, which decisively contributed to the affirmation of national identity. Ion Pelivan embodies the generation that had the strength to turn an ideal into reality; through such initiatives, the National Bank of Moldova values historical memory as a defining reference, capable of inspiring responsibility, unity, and confidence in the European path of the Republic of Moldova," emphasised Ms Anca Dragu, on the occasion of the coin's launch.

The certificate includes a QR code that allows direct access to detailed information about the coin’s features, available on the official website of the institution.

The commemorative coin is made of silver, has a nominal value of 50 lei, and a mintage of 500 units. The graphic design is by the artist Georgeta Vrabie.

The commemorative coins are sold to the public by the National Bank of Moldova, based on online requests submitted through the "Currency" section on the official website, as well as through licensed banks in the Republic of Moldova. Banks may independently set the selling price, respecting a ceiling of a maximum 3% above the level established by the National Bank of Moldova.
