The NBM puts into circulation a new commemorative coin

Starting from 19 December 2025, the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) is launching a new series of jubilee and commemorative coins titled "European Moldova," introducing the first coin in this series, "Moldova in the Single Euro Payments Area", into circulation.

The coin marks Republic of Moldova's accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) – a strategic process carried out in three distinct stages: the submission of the official application for accession on 30 January 2024, signed by Ms. Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova; the acceptance of the Republic of Moldova into SEPA on 6 March 2025; and operational integration on 6 October 2025, which enabled the effective connection of the national payment system to the European infrastructure.

"The Republic of Moldova's accession to SEPA is proof that our institutions can deliver tangible results for citizens and businesses, bringing Moldova closer to the European financial area through modern, secure, and accessible solutions. It is the result of sustained effort, a coherent vision, and the state's ability to translate European commitments into real benefits for the economy and society. This coin thus becomes a symbol of trust, consistency, and the clear direction that Moldovans have chosen," emphasises the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova.

The commemorative coin is minted in silver, has a nominal value of 100 lei, and a mintage of 2,500 units. The graphic design was created by Eugeniu Boico, a professor at Moldova State University and the creator of the "Tree of Life," Moldova's tourism brand.

The coin is packaged in a transparent methacrylate capsule and presentation box, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity bearing the signature of the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova. The certificate includes a QR code that provides direct access to information about the coin's characteristics, available on the National Bank's official website.

Commemorative coins are sold to the general public both by the National Bank of Moldova, based on requests submitted online in the "Currency" section of the institution's website, and through licensed banks in the Republic of Moldova. Licensed banks have the right to independently set the sale price of jubilee and commemorative coins, which shall not exceed the level set by the National Bank of Moldova by more than three percent.
