The Republic of Moldova participated in the 2018 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Washington

 

The delegation of the Republic of Moldova, headed by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Octavian Armasu, and the Governor of the NBM, Mr. Sergiu Cioclea, made a visit to Washington to attend the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and of the World Bank Group, which took place on 16-22 April 2018.

During the visit, the representatives of the Ministry of Finance and of the National Bank took part in meetings with high level officials of the IMF, the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Commission to discuss the implementation of the economic and banking reforms in the Republic of Moldova.

In particular, the Moldovan delegation had meetings with Mitsuhiro Furusawa (IMF Deputy Managing Director), Poul Thomsen (European Department Director), Anthony De Lannoy (IMF Executive Director for the Republic of Moldova), Ben Kelmanson (IMF’s Mission Chief for the Republic of  Moldova), Kristalina Georgieva (World Bank Managing Director), Cyril Muller (World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia), Frank Heemskerk (World Bank Executive Director for Moldova), Satu Kahkonen (World Bank Country Director for Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova), Georgina Baker (IFC’s Vice President for Latin America, Caribbean, Europe and Central Asia), Jason Brett Pellmar (IFC Regional Manager for Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus), Pierre Moscovici (European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs), Elena Flores (Director of the European Commission for International Economic Relations), Alain Pilloux (EBRD vice-president, responsible for the banking sector), Betsy Nelson (Vice President of the EBRD, Risk and Compliance Officer), Francis Malige (EBRD Managing Director for Eastern Europe and Caucasus), and others.     

Octavian Armaşu and Sergiu Cioclea also participated in the Spring Meeting of the IMF and the World Bank Group Constituency, led by Belgium and Netherlands, which brings together 15 countries of the Benelux region, Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Israel.

Also in Washington, the Moldovan officials held discussions with representatives of the United States Department of the Treasury and of the U.S. Department of State, informing them about the advancement of the program with the IMF and the areas of collaboration within the technical assistance granted by the USA administration.

The Moldovan delegation was also represented by Ms. Veronica Vragaleva, Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Vladimir Munteanu, First Deputy Governor of the NBM, and Ms. Cristina Harea, Deputy Governor of the NBM.
