The NBM Governor met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Republic of Moldova

The Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Ms Anca Dragu, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Ms Marija Kapitanović, during which they discussed recent economic developments, the European path of the Republic of Moldova, and the role of the financial sector in supporting this process.

The discussions focused on the current economic situation and the reforms implemented to strengthen macroeconomic stability, as well as the progress made in the process of integration with the European Union. In this context, the NBM Governor highlighted the institution’s contribution to aligning the regulatory and supervisory framework with European standards, including through the process of harmonising legislation with the requirements of the European Banking Authority (EBA), with its completion expected later this year.

Additionally, the joining of the Republic of Moldova to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), operational from October 2025, was highlighted, with direct benefits for citizens and businesses, through facilitating fast, secure, and efficient cross-border payments.

“The Republic of Moldova is fully committed to its European path, and the National Bank plays an active role in the reforms that support this journey: from modernising the payment infrastructure to strengthening the financial regulatory framework and harmonising monetary and financial policies with EU standards. The results of these efforts are also reflected in the improvement of the country's sovereign rating, which strengthens investor confidence and contributes to the economic attractiveness of the Republic of Moldova,” emphasised the NBM Governor.

At the same time, Ms Anca Dragu extended her congratulations on the appointment of Mr Boris Vujčić, Governor of the Croatian National Bank, as Vice-President of the European Central Bank.

For her part, H.E. Ms Marija Kapitanović praised the progress made by the NBM, expressing Croatia’s support for Moldova's European integration path.

The relations between the NBM and financial institutions in Croatia are part of the broader framework of European cooperation, with Croatia serving as a relevant reference through its recent experience of joining the Eurozone and its openness to exchanging best practices in financial regulation and stability.
